A vibrant new mural in Banbury is being painted and is already stirring up conversations.

The town centre wall has been a canvass for vibrant artwork over the last 30 years and has featured an image of a pigeon in recent years.

Located on the Bridge Street and Cherwell Street junction near the train station, the wall is now having a makeover.

People in the town have been vocal about their opinions on the new artwork, which is due to be completed next month.

One commenter criticised the artwork and said: "Can't see the relevance of this to Banbury. Disappointed."

Another said: "I think the art work is really good, but for somewhere like Birmingham, or any other big city, not a rural town with lots of history.

"I think it should have been something that reflects the town."

One pleased commenter said: "This is far better than I expected it would be. It really captures and respects the original but brings it up to date. A massive improvement. Well done."

"Absolutely love this. There are so many references to the original mural put up by the Bridge Bar all those years ago, but with the dial turned up to 11. The design is better and pops out at you. Well done to all those involved," said another commenter.

Another Facebook member praised the artwork and said: "I love that my daughter will now have childhood memories of a vibrant eye catching piece of art like her parents before her. Real Banbarians wanted this."

The grand opening of the mural will be Saturday, June 1.
